If there were no story to tell about this remarkable artist, if there were nothing but the music that haunts every track on Mercy Now, that alone would make the case for Mary Gauthier as one of the most challenging artists to rise up from the underground in a long, long time.

"Between Daylight and Dark moves her closer to songwriters like John Prine...There's no clutter in these songs, but a wealth of implication." - New York Times

META.MORE.FACES
Jan 9, 2010
6:00 pm
19 Everett Alley at South Stockton St
Trenton, NJ
As the horrendous pun intends, this exhibition by four highly creative photographers - Ricardo Barros, Ilya Genin, Neil Larsen, and Andrew Wilkinson -- opening January 9th, 2010 at ArtWorks, is designed to push the envelope of our imagination.

META-MORE-Faces explores how far the photographer/artist can move from the point of departure - the "face" as perceived by his eye/lens-without losing sight of where the subject originated.

December 26, 2009 through October 3, 2010
Main Building - 3rd Floor gallery

This exhibition explores the diverse ways in which New Jersey's wealth of resources led to the stabilization and success of both native and colonial inhabitants of the New World. Both native peoples (the Lenape) and colonists used naturally occurring items for food, tools, medicines, currency or ornaments, and this exhibition reveals the intersection between natural and cultural spheres. Natural materials in their unaltered states will be exhibited alongside artifacts derived from or manufactured from that resource by human intervention. For example, clay specimens from New Jersey will be exhibited next to some of the pottery produced from that clay; reeds and rushes will be exhibited with baskets; and material from lithic sources will be exhibited with artifacts made from it. Both terrestrial and aquatic resources will be included. Educators who are seeking to interpret the prehistoric and early historic cultures of New Jersey will find this exhibition to be a valuable resource.
