In 1911, Constantine P. Cavafy, the Alexandrian poet, wrote the poem “Ithaki” about Ulysses’ journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. The poem inspired this film by Ibrahim El Batout. Ithaki glimpses into fifteen characters whose lives have been touched by war, illness, disability and addiction, fusing documentary and fiction genres to highlight the thin line that exists between reality and fantasy. Be a witness to that fatal night as three of Virginia's finest doctors are called to Mt. Vernon to diagnose the nature of Washington's illness. Watch as the medical drama unfolds and learn about the medicines, instruments and therapies that they employed in a heroic, yet futile effort to save his life.
