Who dare deny that Trenton has history? A hub of two Revolutions — American and Industrial. A capital city from Day One of New Jersey as a state . . . and almost, oh so nearly, did the United States give birth to a Trenton, D.C., rather than Washington, D.C. In the late 1780s, Trenton came within inches of being selected as the nation's seat of government. In this period also, Trenton thrived as a river town, designated an official "port of delivery" by Congress and thereby permitted to receive not just national but international shipping.
